Today I wanted to talk about color correcting concealers,my favorite products and how I use them.
I look for products that a creamy and can easily be blended. Often, I find color correctors are too thick and hard to work with. I also love tinted primers if I have redness all over my skin. My favorite tinted primer is the mineral wear talk free color correcting primer in green by physicians formula. Unfortunately, I can’t find this in stores anymore, so I use the ELF green primer which works.
The best color correcting concealers I have used are by NYX. I use the color correcting palette and their yellow HD photogenic concealer wand. Both are pigmented, creamy and easy to blend.
As a reference point, I have very fair skin. My foundation shade is NC15 and I have neutral undertones. I get redness all over my skin, dark red acne scars, and slight darkness around my eyes and lips.
First, I’ll use a green primer to tone down the redness. Next, I’ll use a mix of yellow and purple on my acne scars. I mix yellow, purple and salmon on any areas that appear dark. These color combinations cancel out my red/dark areas without looking unnatural.
A good rule of thumb is a salmon color under the eyes, yellow under the eyes and on red spots if your fair and green if you have a dark skin tone.
After I apply my foundation, I conceal my under eyes and any acne I have. I like to use a creamy liquid formula like Maybellines Fit me concealer in 115. I use the same color under my eyes as I do on my face because it looks more natural. If I wanted to highlight under my eyes, I set it with a matte highlighting powder.
I apply my concealer with my fingers, partially because I’m lazy. It also gives me better control this way. For more concealer advice, check out the Into The Gloss Best Concealers post!
